Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Walmart’s Distribution Center Compute (Linux) team is responsible for be responsible for building, designing, and supporting for more than 5,000 servers in 450 DC’s across multiple countries.   We run VM workloads primarily on the Nutanix virtualization stack.  There is also a substantial amount of VMware/VSAN deployments that are in the process of being phased out.  SUSE is the primary Linux distribution used and there are also some instances of RHEL. These systems support the supply chain network which allows us to get goods to stores and customers in the most efficient and quickest way possible.

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer who has a deep understanding of these Linux distributions as well as a deep understanding of automation tools including OO programming languages, GitHub, and scripting languages.  Additionally, the candidate should have a good understanding of virtual environments and how to administer them.  Leadership skills are also a must as they will be expected to be a technical leader for the team.  They should be able to navigate technical conversations as well as leadership presentations.  Growth opportunities are available for the candidate that expresses all of the above mentioned qualities, are self-motivated and driven to succeed, and are focused on driving measurable value for the organization.

As a senior systems engineer on the distribution center compute (Linux) team, the candidate will be responsible for build, design, and support for more than 5,000 servers in 450 DC’s across multiple countries.  In addition, the ideal candidate will evaluate the current environment, identify inconsistencies and inefficiencies, and develop automation to address those gaps.  The DC compute environment needs to be modernized to become more resistant to failure and better suited to handle heavy application workloads.  The task won’t be easy as legacy applications are dependent on certain standards that are no longer the norm.
