What you'll do...

It’s exciting time to join our Walmart journey. We are seeking a Director, Product Management - Tech for a key position in Finance Technology supporting the Central Item Level Ledger (CILL) team.  CILL is being built to be the financial data backbone for all of Walmart, supporting all lines of business and every way we interact with customers from brick and mortar stores to our growing ecommerce business.  CILL is consolidating all finance information from hundreds of source systems, applying standardization, aggregation, and additional business logic to this information, and then presenting to downstream consuming applications to further process for both internal and external financial reporting.  This is a powerful initiative, we are decoupling financial systems that in some cases are 40+ years old and building on a new cloud-native environment build to scale and evolve.

This role will be principally responsible for the technology direction of the application, interfacing with our various constituents, and driving the roadmap for the engineering teams across multiple geographies.  A strong product mindset is required, and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.  If you have a product background, and are a storyteller at heart with the ability to shape the narrative and rally support behind a vision, this role might be the perfect fit.

About the Team

As a part of Walmart Finance Technology, you will work alongside a cutting-edge technology team building industry leading solutions to support Walmart’s financial systems’ needs.  We provide the systems that allow the Fortune 1 company to close the books each month and report financial statements externally each quarter.  More than $500 Billion in annual revenue flows through these systems, so you will be working with large data sets and large financials.  You will be in the unique position to be of service to both our customers and our associates as a member of this organization supporting all segments of Walmart. You’ll make an impact by:

  • Bringing Passion to ideate, plan, and ensure proper design decisions and technology best practices are followed by the team each day.
  • Conducting industry and competitive analysis to benchmark against other industry Micro Services implementations.
  • Partnering with our Global Technology Platform team, Enterprise Architects, and Finance business partners to drive consistent behavior and align responsibilities.
  • Defining vision and strategies for the current day-to-day application support and future technology decisions that may be coming.
  • Building collaborative relationships with key partners by driving priorities aligned to business goals, communicating and prioritizing product roadmaps, and gaining buy-in from executive leadership
  • Providing overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs
  • Building a team environment by partnering to solve problems and staying focused till there is a solution

What you’ll do…

  • Set the long-term roadmap for CILL and the vision of the product
  • Partner actively with the Global Technology Platform (GTP) team and the Enterprise Architect (EA) team on future technology roadmap
  • Represent the product status / vision in various settings at various levels of the organization – become a spokesman/spokeswoman with a roadshow
  • Build a strong working relationship with our India based associates (~100) with daily collaboration for around the clock development/support, while supporting our US engineering team (~20) with regular direction
  • Guide our technology team through tactical review of current business needs and a strategic view of future technology changes that may be necessary
  • Align with other major programs for future integration
  • Establish an evolutionary journey for the application, understanding current technologies and what may cause changes in the future.

What you’ll bring…

  • 8+ years of Technical Product Management experience, with a track record of building and maintaining reliable & scalable applications
  • Direct team leadership is a plus
  • Reputation for leading in a remote, geographically distributed environment
  • Strong understanding of Software Development Lifecycle and SOLID engineering principles
  • Experience working with Open Stack cloud solutions, and subsequent integration layers with SAP


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science required/MBA or MIS is a huge plus!
  • 8+ years in product management, emerging technologies, ERP systems.
  • Two + years’ experience building and managing a team of high performing application development engineers.
  • Quantitative or engineering background is preferred.
  • Platform experience is highly desirable.
  • Sound business judgment as well as ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, scope technical requirements and prioritize.
  • Must be able and willing to think and act strategically and tactically.
