Data Ventures exists to unlock the full value of Walmart’s data by developing and productizing B2B data initiatives that empower merchants and suppliers to make better, faster decisions for the business. As part of this transformation, we’re seeking entrepreneurial individuals to help drive data productization from concept to deployment.
The Product Manager is responsible for developing new data products and bringing them to market. This role is vital to growing the innovation funnel for Data Ventures by identifying unmet needs and developing a viable product strategy and plan to launch.
Understand the transformations on foundational datasets and how it impacts the use cases that Data Ventures is solving for
Connect to the multiple data sets across the enterprise to scout the right source working with data stewards and owners to understand the grain and depth of data
Will act as the historian of a Single Version of Truth from a data perspective by documenting important changes to data upstream and downstream data and always serving as a SME on changing landscapes
What You Will Do
Develop new data products into viable opportunities for the Data Ventures team to assess and prioritize
Research B2B data product markets, develop point of view on trends in data products and analytics, study strategic partnerships, develop relationships with new prospective partners
Conduct opportunity sizing research and exercises, as well as pricing strategy research to clearly articulate the makeup of competitive or complementary markets/products
Interview and hold workshops with potential clients, developing personas, journeys, stories and more product development artifacts that advance the product
Develop product concepts, value propositions, feature sets and design systems to begin the path towards product-market fit. Test, adapt and refine product approach to produce a viable opportunity Walmart should consider.
Plan new data product scope, prep, build and launch
Determine product scope for initial launch and early grow period.
Set objectives and key results (OKRs) for product launch, adoption and market reception.
Define new data product requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria.
Articulate overall scope and required data elements and analytics required for the use case
Coordinate with commercial leads to develop GTM strategy and plan.
Support identifying and assessing potential partners for deployment and distribution
Establishing a client profile and pricing strategy for initial launch
Help with internal user/stakeholder engagement and comms
Co-create request for information and request for proposal documents and conduct in-depth sessions to evaluate partnership candidates
Help launch data products and develop a plan and backlog to expand beyond the initial scope
Begin UX research and testing to define future product expansions
Ensure new product team is established and successfully transitioned onto team
Ensure product knowledge is effectively managed and accessible for new core team
Implement build-measure-learn process for testing new capabilities before rollout
Ensure product metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) are being consistently measured and OKRs are on track
Ensure overall product health before transitioning off
Product management & execution throughout new product build phase
Backlog development, stewarding all product requirements
Working with Scrum Master/team to ensure release planning is done effectively
Sprint planning and retro/demos are conducted successfully and consistently
Driving Scrum Team accountability and advocating for the user
Support portfolio strategy development and conduct rigorous analytical assessments
Lead UX research and workshops and reinforce a culture of design thinking

Outline delivery timelines and delivery dependencies
Hold Report Owners accountable to sprint plans
Communicate changes to timelines and missed deliveries
Increasing customer data literacy and adoption:
Deliver readiness collateral to ensure deployments are adopted
(eg. FAQs, Workshops, how-to videos, etc.)
Candidate(s) profile :
5-7 years of product management experience; strong in product design, growth and measurement
Ability to create and manage products within a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Passion for data analytics and some experience as a business user/consumer of data/analytics
Startup or new product/business experience and mindset
Experience in retail/eComm, B2B products, or data/analytics industries
Sees product as a journey vs a destination
Views customer requirements as a product feature on a long roadmap vs the end deliverable
Able to continually and seamlessly release features and functionality that adheres to rapidly changing user expectations dependent on market trends
