Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Do you enjoy using technology to solve business problems unhindered by complex processes?  Mainframe Appdev and zCloud team is looking for a Systems Engineer who loves listening to customers, working as a team, and delivering high quality solutions. Our mission is to innovate and build robust solutions that enable Walmart IT customers to create and maintain services and/or products in support of Application Development and Technology modernization. This involves integration of several different platforms including Mainframe, Cloud and Web.

What you’ll do?

  • Participate and perform the design, development, implementation, and deployment of successful processes and services in support of Walmart Application Development.
  • Support services and tools managed by zCloud and zAppdev teams including Cloud based services.
  • Develop new services and products in distributed (open systems - on-premises & Cloud) and Mainframe platform environments
  • Work with cross-functional teams delivering on demanding projects.
  • Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions.
  • Understand system interdependencies and limitations.
  • Share knowledge in program development, performance, management, testing, and engineering best practices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer information systems or related field and 4 years professional experience in software development, troubleshooting, and technical coordination OR 6 years development, troubleshooting, and technical coordination.
  • Knowledge of Azure, Google, and other Cloud platforms.
  • Experience in one or more of following:
    • React.js – Web UI, Java, JavaScript, Nodejs, HTML, CSS
    • SQL and other RDBMS, Cosmo DB, etc.
    • Dockers, Kubernetes, and other containers.
  • Experienced in code management practices using GIT.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Obsession with quality and customer experience - attention to detail coupled with ability to think abstractly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced in WCNP and Oneops (Walmart Internal).
  • Experience in Service Registry and Service Mesh.
  • Mainframe development experience
    • Traditional z App Languages - IBM Enterprise COBOL, JCL, Rexx, SAS etc.
    • CICS, TSO.
    • Databases – DB2, IMS.
    • Compilers, z utilities (FILEAID, DFSORT, XPEDITER, etc.), development tools.
    • Working knowledge of Walmart in-house developed Mainframe developer tools.
  • Advanced experience with multi-threaded applications.
  • Experience taking a leading role in building solutions that have been successfully delivered to customers.
  • Experienced software engineering best practices for full stack software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Background in distributed computing, Mainframe, and service-oriented architectures.
