As a Senior Manager I, Software Engineering part of Sam’s Global Technologies Team, you will make an impact by:

  • Building and leading teams:  Set and manage globally distributed engineering teams

  • Providing cross-functional leadership:  Working cross-functionally with product, engineering, program, and business teams to deliver omni-solutions across Sam’s Tech

  • Developing and executing plans: Drive the execution of multiple business plans and tech initiatives.  Effectively communicate execution, capacity, resource plans, and priorities

  • Building strategic relationships: Partner with peer teams to help design omni-presence solution across clubs and online

  • Operating with excellence: Set an example in managing code quality via reviews, coverage, automation for core application and peer teams. Contribute to technology backlog based on reviews. 

What you’ll bring:

  • People Management with 6+ more direct reports

  • Technology Background of Software Engineering with Java, Cloud Technologies, and Data Engineering 

  • In-depth knowledge of industry best practices, technologies, architectures, and emerging technologies specifically in retail systems landscape

  • Experience delivering applications at scale leveraging public cloud.

  • Experience in creating high performing teams through accountability, metrics, innovation, automation, and CI/CD

  • Experience driving engineering teams using Agile process to drive innovation, accelerate decisions and outcomes while minimizing risk.

  • Experience in making successful trade-offs that balance the short- and long-term goals and initiatives.

  • Ability to work with cross-org stakeholders to plan and deliver critical services. 

  • A strong commitment to developing Associates and helping them achieve their personal and career goals.

  • Executive presence skills to present to senior leadership


  • Background experience with software language such as React or Java, and related technologies such as Spring, Kafka, Node, SQL and Cloud based solutions

  • Understanding of Architecture and Design patterns

  • Strong communication and presentation skills to influence others and gain alignment

  • Foster culture of innovation, continuous learning & development among the team

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience

You’ll operate as a trusted advisor as it relates to efficiencies, best practices, and both selection and integration of new technologies in hardware and software.
