What you'll do...

It’s exciting time to join our Walmart journey. We are seeking a Senior Manager I, Software Engineering - FDS for a key position in Finance Technology support the Finance Data Services team.  Finance Data Services is a portfolio of Micro-Services that centralize data collection and availability of our core Finance Technology data.  Today this information is primarily used in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Procure to Pay, and Inventory processes, but the foundation is laid to expand to additional finance processes in the near future.  This role would be leading one of our US based team of associates (7-10 direct reports) plus interacting with our geographically distributed teams in India to drive the Engineering teams forward.  A strong cloud & open-stack technology background is preferred, and the ability to partner with our amazing Product team for the future vision is a must.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills will also be critical as regular interactions with our business partners take place.

About the Team

As a part of Walmart Finance Technology, you will work alongside a cutting-edge technology team building industry leading solutions to support Walmart’s financial systems’ needs.  We provide the systems that allow the Fortune 1 company to close the books each month and report financial statements externally each quarter.  More than $500 Billion in annual revenue flows through these systems, so you will be working with large data sets and large financials.  You will be in the unique position to be of service to both our customers and our associates as a member of this organization supporting all segments of Walmart. You’ll make an impact by:

  • Bringing Passion to ideate, plan, and ensure proper design decisions and technology best practices are followed by the team each day.
  • Conducting industry and competitive analysis to benchmark against other industry Micro Services implementations.
  • Partnering with our Global Technology Platform team, Enterprise Architects, and Finance business partners to drive consistent behavior and align responsibilities.
  • Defining vision and strategies for the current day-to-day application support and future technology decisions that may be coming.
  • Building collaborative relationships with key partners by driving priorities aligned to business goals, communicating and prioritizing product roadmaps, and gaining buy-in from executive leadership
  • Providing overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs
  • Building a team environment by partnering to solve problems and staying focused till there is a solution

What you’ll do…

  • Oversee the one of the current US based FDS team of associates (7-10) direct reports)
  • Build a strong working relationship with our India based associates (~70) with daily collaboration for around the clock development/support
  • Direct a pool of contractors, whether Time & Material or Managed Outcome, to continue to advance the products forward as appropriate
  • Guide our technology team through tactical review of current business needs and a strategic view of future technology changes that may be necessary
  • Partner actively with the Global Technology Platform (GTP) team and the Enterprise Architect (EA) team on future technology roadmap
  • Align with other major programs underway to understand and direct changes as required for the FDS organization
  • Create roadmaps and project plans supporting Walmart’s long-term plans for data optimization across systems.
  • Oversee the current cloud footprint and cost metrics, and drive efficiencies as part of every day engineering excellence

What you’ll bring…

  • 6+ years of Software Engineering supervisory experience, with a track record of building and maintaining high performing teams
  • Reputation for leading in a remote, geographically distributed environment
  • Strong understanding of Software Development Lifecycle and SOLID engineering principles
  • Emphatic adherence to Every Day Engineering Excellence (EDEE) with the highest standards for quality
  • Experience working with Open Stack cloud solutions, and subsequent integration layers with SAP


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science required/MBA or MIS is a huge plus!
  • 6+ years in product management, emerging technologies, ERP systems.
  • Two + years’ experience building and managing a team of high performing application development engineers.
  • Quantitative or engineering background is preferred.
  • Platform experience is highly desirable.
  • Sound business judgment as well as ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, scope technical requirements and prioritize.
  • Must be able and willing to think and act strategically and tactically.
