At Dillard’s, the Senior Teradata Database Administrator and Technical Architect is responsible for defining the technical strategy for the Dillard’s Data Warehouse. You will administer database implementations running on AIX, Linux and potentially other platforms, supporting in-house and third party applications.


  • Work with business analysts, end-users, BI analysts -- data modelers, database architects, BI, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) team and DBA’s -- to support our evolving business intelligence endeavors
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure architects, network engineers and application development teams on implementations and integration
  • Partner with the Information Security team to ensure the protection of sensitive data during transmission, storage & consumption
  • Define the technical strategy for the Data Warehouse in alignment with the Dillard’s corporate strategy
  • Establish, implement and maintain the Data Warehouse architecture including technical infrastructure (hardware, software, and network) as well as supporting processes
  • Assist hardware and software support specialists with environment capacity and capacity planning
  • Stay current on knowledge of products and tools
  • Understand system design and element dependencies
  • Be knowledgeable of industry best practices for BI and be responsible for training others on best practices
  • Play an integral role in the determination of SLAs (Service Level Agreements) for data acquisition, queries, overall response time, etc.
  • Play an integral role in the design and development of the overall system architecture
  • Coordinate, maintain and test DR (Disaster Recovery) scenarios for the software stack
  • Document DR plans and procedures
  • Work with the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) Manager and Standards Coordinator on establishing EDW standards and governance rules
  • Participate in an on-call rotation
  • Develop a schedule for patching/upgrading application servers
  • Develop plan for implementation of new full releases of each application and support tools


  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Ability to work onsite at Corporate Headquarters in Little Rock, AR
  • 4 year degree in Information Systems or equivalent combination of relevant certifications and field experience
  • 3 to 5 years database experience
  • In depth understanding of Teradata database technologies
  • Working knowledge of all the tools in the BI ecosystem
  • Advanced knowledge of various database technologies, *ix based operating systems and storage
  • Various scripting skills such as KSH, Perl and Python
  • Advanced understanding of Enterprise networks
  • Programming language skills a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Well-developed business process analytical and technical writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
