Position Summary...

What you'll do...

As a Software Engineer III in the Location Catalog area, you will be exposed to a large, big data ecosystem, that is a foundational system within Walmart. These systems are used to create, maintain, and administrate the data for Walmart Locations worldwide.
  • Drives solutions that proactively monitor and alert teams to potential issues before they cause impact to business systems
  • Participates in the Operational Excellence process to uncover root cause of impacting issue, ensure all issues within the team's focus areas are properly resolved, and changes to processes, systems, coding, or testing are implemented to ensure the same issues do not occur in the future.
  • Provides support to the business by
    • Responding to user questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, implementation strategies).
    • Researching and identifying needed solutions.
    • Determining implementation designs.
    • Providing guidance regarding implications of new and enhanced systems.
    • Identifying short- and long-term solutions.
    • Directing users to appropriate contacts for issues outside of associate's domain.
  • Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by
    • Building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders.
    • Identifying business needs.
    • Determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices.
    • Monitoring progress and results.
    • Recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and,
    • Adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.
  • Participates in design review meetings, resolves gaps and helps the team to perform necessary actions before it hits the production.
  • Participates in meetings with project teams, product owners, business regularly to formulate the plans for fixing all the open bugs.
  • Performs code reviews to ensure the code quality and follows the standards.
  • Works across geographic boundaries to assist offshore engineers to understand technical specifications and business logic.
  • Participates in the discovery phase of small to medium-sized projects to produce high level design by partnering with the product management, project management, business, and user experience teams.
  • Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.
  • Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices.

Skill Set Additions:
  • Knowledge of technologies used in building scalable, distributed systems in virtualized cloud environments.
  • Ability to design for fault tolerance and high availability.
  • Have proficient knowledge and experience with Kafka Queues, Cassandra, Solr, SQL
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the following programming Languages: Java, Spark (SQL, Streaming), Build Manager (Maven), Distributed Version Control (GIT), Continuous Integration (Jenkins) experience.
  • Solid DevOps skills in troubleshooting live applications, assessing performance bottlenecks of applications.
  • Develop high performance and scalable solutions that extract, transform, and load big data
  • Experience with Kubernetes/Azure Cloud
  • Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform
