This position serves as the Network Engineer for the IT Data Center Infrastructure Network Services Team. The Network Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, installation, training, support, and maintenance of new and ongoing projects that involve the IT Data Center Infrastructure Network Services Team. This position also is responsible for research of new network-based hardware and software products, which may provide solutions to Enterprise business problems. Additionally, the Network Engineer provides and maintains an efficient level of service to the Enterprise through effective, continual, proactive monitoring and review. Primary job functions require exercising independent judgment in support of the Enterprise network infrastructure including the WAN, LAN, MAN, MPLS circuits, UVN, and Internet connectivity for all users. This individual also reviews network based problem resolutions and develops and monitors networked systems performance and availability standards. The Network Engineer performs in the capacity of a team member to provide support and assistance in maintaining the network infrastructure. This individual also provides leadership to their peers and other area of the Enterprise. Thorough knowledge of network infrastructure components allow this individual to plan, manage, configure, operate, and perform tuning services as required. In-depth knowledge of network system including Cisco-based solutions for TCP/IP protocols, DHCP, routing, and switching are required. The Network Engineer may seek appropriate professional certifications, such as but not limited to Cisco certification. The Network Engineer must provide excellent user support and have strong communication, technical writing, and documentation skills. In addition, the person in this position must have exceptional troubleshooting and problem resolution skills and demonstrate expertise with day-to-day network management and administration, including proactive monitoring and capacity planning.
